FAQ

Pole barn questions, answered

Straight answers on permits, cost, snow loads, and timelines on the Wasatch Front.

Do I need a permit for a pole barn in Utah?+

Almost always yes. Most counties require a building permit for any structure over 200 square feet, and the rules vary by county (Weber, Davis, Salt Lake, Morgan). We handle the permitting and inspections for you.

How much does a pole barn cost in Utah?+

A basic pole barn shell on the Wasatch Front typically runs about $50–$60 per square foot depending on size, roof pitch, and finishes. A fully finished shop costs more. We give free, itemized estimates so you see exactly what's included.

What snow load do you build to?+

It depends on elevation. Snow loads range from about 30 psf at the valley floor to 100+ psf in mountain areas like Ogden Valley and the Wasatch Back. Every build is engineered to your site's local code.

How long does it take to build a pole barn?+

From signed contract to start, expect about 4–6 weeks for permitting and scheduling. The build itself typically takes 2–4 weeks for a standard pole barn, depending on size and finish level.

Do you build barndominiums?+

Yes. We build barndominiums across the Wasatch Front — modern living space combined with a functional barn, in Weber, Davis, Salt Lake, and Morgan counties.

What areas do you serve?+

The Wasatch Front and Wasatch Back: Weber, Davis, Salt Lake, and Morgan counties — including Ogden, Plain City, Layton, Salt Lake City, South Jordan, Eden, and the surrounding cities.

Do you offer fixed pricing?+

Yes. You get a free estimate with itemized line items and fixed pricing — no surprise change orders. We keep you informed throughout the entire build.

What can I use a pole barn for?+

Almost anything: a shop or garage, RV and equipment storage, a working barn, a hobby space, a home business, or finished living space like a barndominium or lean-to apartment. The use drives the design — doors, ceiling height, insulation, and floor — so we plan around how you'll actually use it.

What size pole barn do I need?+

It depends on what you're storing or doing, plus room to grow. The most common regret we hear is 'I wish I'd gone bigger' — adding square footage during the build is far cheaper than expanding later. We'll help you right-size it on the free estimate.

What foundation options do I have — concrete, gravel, or dirt?+

All three are options depending on your use and budget. A poured concrete slab is best for shops, living space, and anything on wheels; gravel works for storage and lower cost; dirt suits some agricultural uses. We'll recommend the right base for your build.

How long does a pole barn last?+

A properly engineered and maintained post-frame building lasts for decades. We build to Utah snow and wind loads with quality materials so your barn holds up to Wasatch Front winters.

Is financing available for a pole barn?+

Yes — financing options exist for pole barns in Utah. Agricultural buildings can often use Farm Credit lenders, and personal or construction loans cover most non-agricultural projects. Ask us and we'll point you in the right direction for your build.

What's included in my quote?+

Your estimate is itemized so you can see exactly what's included — materials, labor, the building package, and the scope we've agreed on. No vague lump sums and no surprise change orders. If something isn't in the quote, we tell you up front.
